A Memorial Day blog post should be about fun and friends and amazing summer cocktails to serve at your barbeque. I get it. And I do have a cocktail that I’m eager to share with you. I promise. But first, let’s just take a second this Memorial Day morning to pay tribute to the fallen. I don’t just mean the fallen soldiers. This morning, I am thinking about the billions of folks whose stories have fallen away from our history. READ THE FULL POST ON PLENTY OF ICE>>>

The Old Fashioned Do Gooder: Mad Men Moments in the Age of Social Innovation
Did you know that Rachel Maddow has a Cocktail Moment? During this election season, I have become a huge fan of hers and, last night, for the first time, I watched as she ended her week by sharing one of her favorite cocktails with us. My partner and I just sat there, eyes wide and mouths agape, as she poured a new spin on the Old Fashioned.
I knew I liked her before but last night made me realize that I have found my Soul Mate. Continue reading
Sunday Night Tequila. Dots Connected.
About a week ago today, I read Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon. I loved it. I gave it to my brother as a gift for his birthday. It was a big influence for me to finally launch this blog and start DOING something even though I am not sure exactly what THIS is…yet. One thing Austin wrote that REALLY got to me had to do with not worrying about “connecting the dots.” That, if all my work comes from me, then the dots are already connected. Whew. This has allowed me a bunch of freedom. Like, here it is Sunday night – daylight savings Sunday – and all I care about posting is the cocktail I served at my friends’ dinner party tonight. I ask myself, “what does this have to do with the theme of this blog?”
Well, the theme of this blog is me. And this is what I have created. Dots connected. Enjoy.
The Cat Caller
(named by my wife, Allison, in honor of the costumes we created to attend our friends’ party last night)
It’s basically a margarita…with a twist…
2 oz reposado tequila
- 1 oz orangecello
- a splash of agave
- ginger
- 1/2 oz lime juice or the juice of 3 halves of lime
Muddle a few pieces of ginger with a splash or 2 of agave in the bottom of a shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients. Add ice. Shake. Serve in whatever glass makes you happy. I suggest a cocktail glass with a ginger garnish.
